Pakistan’s development dream will not be realized unless we realize the goals of exports contained in our annual economic targets, said Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjarani while speaking at the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI).
“We need self-sufficiency. We need to give up our dependence on borrowed money and politically motivated trade relations. We need to develop our capacity to attract buyers for our products based on our product’s quality,” he said. “Entrepreneurs hold the key to our economic success. They need to realize their role. They need to take initiative and charge of solving the most pressing economic problems of ours. If businesses and industries give up, we will become a barren land,” he said.
The event was organized by ICCI to pay tribute and present awards to the former presidents of the ICCI for their valuable and timeless contribution.
Speaking on the occasion, Senator Naseebullah Bazai said that “innovation in itself is useless if it is not used for commercial purposes. Economic development is dependent on technological breakthroughs to keep abreast of competitors.” He invited the ICCI participants to the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Senate being organized in March next year. He was hopeful that increased collaboration between the federal government and the businesses will yield a lot of positive results for the country.
“ICCI represents the chambers across the country and I invite ICCI representatives to accompany us on foreign visits,” he was quoted as saying. He underlined that access to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and countries of the Far East that needed our cooperation, should be made possible.
He said that the ICCI and the Senate of Pakistan would work together for the development of Pakistan and legislation would be done according to the requirements of modern times.
Senate chairman thanked the officials of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry for inviting him to the event. He congratulated all former presidents of ICCI and expressed good wishes.
President ICCI, members of the business community and industry, thanked the Chairman for his presence at the meeting and assured him that the business community stands with the government in these difficult times.
