Aitizaz Hassan ISLAMABAD, June 08 (INP-WealthPK): The National Information Technology Board (NITB) has achieved a major milestone in implementing the electronic filing system (e-office) in 40 ministries or divisions of the federal government. The system has saved approximately Rs70 million since its recent use. According to a spokesperson for the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MOITT), the NITB has successfully completed the e-office framework for all federal offices, and 12 offices have practically adopted the level 4 of the system including the Cabinet Division, MOITT, Establishment Division and Ministry of Education and Professional Training. The NITB has also developed an e-office app, which is helping the government departments to go paperless. It is aimed at improving internal efficiencies in an organization through electronic administration. The spokesperson said the NITB has trained 8,964 users, including app admins, in capacity building training programs. So far, there are 6,760 active users on e-office app. The NITB predicted that the use of this app will help save Rs300 million and 80% of operating time. The NITB specializes in key automation, design, development and implementation of robust IT technologies to promote e-governance culture in the federal government. The spokesperson said the major task of implementation was assigned to acting NITB Executive Director Syed Hasnain Abbas Kazmi, who has not only deployed new solutions within the given timeframe, but also organized multiple full-day capacity-building training programs for e-office users of all federal ministries or divisions. In the second phase, the NITB will begin implementation of e-office in multiple departments of the federal ministries. “The robust e-cabinet portal is yet another success under the current leadership of the Ministry of IT and Telecom and the NITB, which transformed paper-based cabinet meeting procedures to completely paperless environment through a secure digital system,” the spokesperson said. The federal government has urged the provincial governments of Balochistan and Sindh to adopt the same solution from the NITB in their respective cabinets. The NITB aims to complete its roll-out in Sindh and Balochistan by August 2022. The e-office is a step forward into an era of paperless administration in the government offices. It is a digital workplace solution that replaces the existing method of manual handling of files and documents with an efficient electronic system. The app can update and share files with other relevant users and eventually store them with proper references. Regular backups and disaster recovery systems (DRS) are in place, which ensures that the government files are not damaged in case of any mishap. Apart from other strategic initiatives, the NITB has developed a state-of-the-art digital portal for special economic zones (SEZs) in collaboration with the Board of Investment (BoI) to help investors, which will be inaugurated soon.
