Economic self-reliance govt’s top priority: governor

October 03, 2022

Governor of Punjab Baligh-ur-Rehman said that economic self-reliance is the top priority of the government.

The government has taken several steps to immediately solve problems faced by the business community to accelerate economic activity, he said while inaugurating a modern building block at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI).

Baligh-ur-Rehman said the business community is playing an instrumental role in the country’s economic development and appreciated its efforts during the recent floods and COVID-19.

The governor said that the floods had caused a huge loss to the national economy. The cotton and rice crops have been destroyed on a vast scale so the government will have to import them.

He hailed the LCCI’s initiative for building a beautiful block and starting the One Window Operation Centre to provide convenience to its members.

He said that the Lahore chamber has a very good liaison with the Governor’s House, the highest constitutional post of the province. “We are committed to serving the business community,” he said.

LCCI President Mian Nauman Kabir said that the Lahore chamber is the oldest chamber in Pakistan with a history dating back to about 100 years.

He said that the LCCI is the prime representative of the business community and it has a special responsibility to safeguard its members’ interests.

The LCCI president urged its members to take advantage of trade and investment opportunities available in order to propel the economy's growth. The business community should essentially use growth models and techniques that ensure equitable growth, he added.

Nauman said the LCCI did its best to support its members and had set up One Window Smart Service Centre a few years ago, which was appreciated by its members.

He said that with the passage of time, new help desks had been added keeping in view the needs of the LCCI members. The One Window Service Centre have remained successful due to the cooperation of the government institutions, he added.

The newly constructed block was equipped with modern technology so that the members could avail of high-quality service and enjoy a pleasant ambience, he added.

LCCI Senior Vice President Mian Rehman Aziz Chan, Vice President Haris Ateeq and Executive Committee Members were also present at the inaugural ceremony.
