Donors’ conference to raise funds for the rehabilitation of flood-affected people and the reconstruction of destroyed infrastructure will be held in the first week of January. The information was shared by the Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal while presiding over a meeting at the National Flood Response and Coordination Center (NFRCC) to discuss the strategic roadmap for rehabilitation efforts.
He said that the government is planning to organize road-shows in big capitals of the world to raise money for the people affected by the recent floods, adding that the strategies of 4-Rs (Resilience, Recovery, Rehabilitation, Reconstruction) and 3-Is (Infrastructure needs, Institutional requirements, Investments) will be adopted for the post-floods reconstruction efforts.Ahsan Iqbal said that both the short-term and long-term reconstruction needs will be kept in mind while pursuing the post-floods reconstruction efforts.
He added that the government will inform all the international stakeholders about the steps it will take to the same end. He continued, “the strategic plan for reconstruction and rehabilitation will be shared with international stakeholders one month before the donors’ conference. It will be a comprehensive and futuristic plan in all aspects.”National Coordinator of NFRCC Lt Gen Zafar Iqbal, Secretary of Ministry of Planning and Development, representatives of the World Bank and other senior officials from the ministry were also present at the meeting.
Ahsan Iqbal was briefed about various aspects of the Strategic Plan (4-RF), where he appreciated the role of all national institutions, the international community, and donor partners in dealing with flood disasters. He directed the ministerial authorities to finalize the plan for the conduct of the donors’ conference.
