By Raza Khan ISLAMABAD, May 18 (INP-WealthPK): Readymade garments, towels, bedwear, knitwear and cotton clothing remained major contributors to Pakistan’s textile exports during April 2022, reports WealthPK. According to the data released by the Ministry of Commerce, with an increase of 29.4%, exports of cotton clothing rose to $210 million in April this year from $162.38 million in the corresponding month of 2021. Exports of knitwear were recorded $488.37 million in April 2022 as against $340.26 million during the same month of last year, registering a growth of 43.53%. Bedwear exports were worth $278 million during the month under review as compared to $239.52 million in the same month of last year, with an addition of 16.32%. With a growth of 27.98%, towel exports rose to $108.27 million in April this year from $84.6 million during the corresponding month of last year. Exports of readymade garments were recorded $350.54 million in April as against $243.6 million during the same month of 2021, with an increase of 43.89%. Exports of made-up textile articles remained $82.81 million during the month under review as compared to $62 million in the corresponding month of last fiscal year, posting a growth of 33.56%. Export of cotton yarn declined by 4.95% and fell to $97.65 million in April 2022 from $102.73 million in same month of 2021. Overall textile exports in April 2022 grew by 30.5% and rose to $1.739 billion from $1.332 billion during the same month of the last year, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reported. Pakistan’s total textile exports remained $15.98 billion during the first 10 months (July-April) of the current fiscal year as against $11.35 billion during the same period of last year, registering a growth of 25.96%. Asad Naqvi, Senior Analyst of APTMA, told WealthPK that textile exports of almost $16 billion in July-April period of 2021-22 were the highest ever achieved by Pakistan in any fiscal year. He said textile exports in April were also the highest ever achieved by the country in a single month. “Growth in textile exports is the result of substantial expansion in textile sector and better pricing of Pakistan’s textile products in the international market,” Naqvi said. He said the European Union (EU) and the United States of America were the major export destinations for Pakistan’s textile products. Naqvi was of the view that Pakistan would be able to achieve the textile export target of $20 billion. “If the industry receives full support of the government, uninterrupted energy supply at competitive tariffs and raw material, the target is still achievable,” he added. According to APTMA’s data, textile exports in each month of the current fiscal year surpassed exports in the corresponding months of last fiscal year. According to the Textile and Apparel Policy 2020-25, Pakistan’s textile exports will be enhanced to $25 billion in the fiscal year 2022-23, $31 billion in 2023-24, and $40 billion in 2024-25.
