Punjab Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman stated that a framework for corporate farming should be completed at the earliest. The primary difficulty facing the world is ensuring access to food, he said while presiding over a discussion on corporate farming. He said this move would aid in lowering exports. He also noted that via corporate farming, the output and quality of wheat, rice, cotton, fruit, and other agricultural commodities will improve. Zahid said corporate farming also includes dairy, fisheries, and cattle.
Some 12,221 acres of land would be used for corporate farming in the initial phase of the trial project, he said. One million acres of vacant land would be converted to agriculture in the second phase, he added. In addition to setting the terms of reference, he commanded the authorities to undertake the pilot project survey right away. The chief secretary also received a thorough briefing on the corporate farming initiative from a senior member of the Board of Revenue.
