ISLAMABAD, Nov 19 (INP-WealthPK): The Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety Division (PASSD) and the Chinese ministry of commerce will sign a memorandum of understanding to explore avenues of collaboration for poverty alleviation. This understanding came at a meeting between Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Nong Rong and Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection Senator Dr Sania Nishtar. The federal cabinet had given a go-ahead for signing of the MoU on Oct 27. Mr Rong and Ms Nishtar discussed the mechanism to enhance cooperation through exchange of experience and leveraging the potential for commerce. Under the MoU, both the countries will establish a communication mechanism to exchange poverty alleviation experience in the field of commerce under the framework of China-Pakistan Joint Economic and Trade Committee. Regular exchanges will also be organised on the implementation mechanism, management mode and main effectiveness of commerce-based poverty alleviation to promote programmatic cooperation. Dr Nishtar said Pakistan would greatly benefit from the great achievements and experience of China in alleviating poverty. “Poverty alleviation is the key plank of the government of Pakistan’s robust economic policies. This agreement will enable us to take a cue from the China’s experience in poverty alleviation,’’ she said, adding the government’s trademark Ehsaas initiative, a multisectoral programme for alleviating poverty was a step in this direction.
