Car sales plunge 39.9% in six months

Pakistan’s car sales during the first six months of the current fiscal year (2022-23) dropped by 39.96% compared to the same months of last fiscal year, WealthPK reported. According to data released by Pakistan Automobile Manufacturing Association (PAMA), a total of 68,900 cars were sold during July-December FY23 compared to 114,774 units during July-December FY22.

The breakup figures showed that 8,906 units of Honda Civic and City were sold during the period under review compared to 17,620 units during the same period of the previous year, showing a dip of 49.45%. The sales of Toyota Corolla and Yaris also decreased by 58.57% to 12,065 units during the first six months of the current fiscal year from 29,126 units during the same period of the previous year.

However, Suzuki Swift’s sales witnessed a massive increase as 7,136 units were sold during the period under review compared to 497 units during the corresponding period of last year. The sales of Suzuki Cultus decreased to 5,143 units during current fiscal year, whereas during same period last year, the sales were recorded at 14,516 units. The sales of Suzuki WagonR also decreased to 3,769 units from 11,629 units. The sales of Suzuki Alto witnessed a sharp decline of 14.74% from 32,388 units to 27,614 units during the months under review, whereas the sales of Suzuki Bolan decreased to 2,436 units from 6,241 units during the same period of last year.
