The sales of cars during the first quarter (July-Sept) of the current fiscal year (2022-23) dropped by 50.34% compared to the same quarter of last year, the data released by Pakistan Automobile Manufacturing Association (PAMA) shows. According to the data, some 28,571 cars were sold during the period under review as opposed to 57,539 units in the same period last year.
The breakup figures showed that 5,045 units of Honda Civic and Honda City were sold during the period compared to 7,793 units last year, thus showing a dip of 35.26%. The sales of Toyota Corolla and Toyota Yaris went down by 53.63% to 6,415 units during the period under review from 13,836 units in the same period the previous year. However, the sales of Suzuki Swift jumped up by 354.07% to 2,116 units from 466 units last year.
The sales of Hyundai Elantra also increased from 724 units to 901 units. The sales of Suzuki Cultus decreased to 1,823 units during the first quarter of the current year, whereas during the same period last year, the sales was recorded at 10,114 units. The sales of Suzuki WagonR also decreased to 1,413 units from 5,488 units in the same period last year.
The sales of Suzuki Alto also witnessed a sharp decline of 40.80% from 15,681 units to 9,283 units during the months under review. In contrast, the sales of Suzuki Bolan decreased to 1,189 units from 2,941 units in the same period of last year.
