The Punjab government has started the registration process under its Crop Insurance Scheme to protect farmers’ income against unfavourable circumstances. Agriculture Director Chaudhry Abdul Hamid said the farmers will be provided with compensation in case their crops are damaged due to weather changes, natural calamities, or grasshopper attacks. He said the registration process of wheat, canola, sunflower, cotton, and paddy crops in all four districts of the Faisalabad division for the Rabi (2022-23) and Kharif (2023) crops has been started.
aHe added that 100% premium would be paid to farmers with up to 5 acres of land and 50% to the owners of up to 25 acres of land. The insurance claim would be calculated according to the average production recorded at the tehsil level, he said, adding that farmers could register themselves by visiting local agriculture offices.
