Major strides have been made in the transfer of cash to the flood-affected people under the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP).
A total sum of PKR 66,744,650,000 has already been distributed among 2,669,786 flood-affected families. This represents 97% of the total intended cash transfers, according to an official source. PKR 25,000 is being distributed among the families hurt by the recent floods. The program is being carried out in all provinces of the country at the same time.
Families receiving the money in Baluchistan number 216,416, with a total disbursement of PKR 5,410,400,000. In Sindh, 1,822,816 affected families have received the money, with a total sum of PKR 45,570,400,000. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the families receiving the cash transfers number 303,524 with a total sum of PKR 7,588,100,000, whereas in Punjab the number is 326,562 and PKR 8,164,050,000. In Gilgit-Baltistan, 468 families have received a total sum of PKR 11,700,000. BISP headquarters are monitoring the activity of cash transfers at a daily basis, according to the official.
Disbursement of PKR 70 billion among 2.7 million families will be completed soon. The program is being carried out under the Prime Minister’s Cash Relief program.
